At the Edge: Innovative Art in Chicago
Founded in 1983 within UIC’s
College of Architecture and the Arts, Gallery 400 is a nationally recognized
non-profit art gallery that hosts acclaimed exhibitions and lectures
by national and international artists.
Spanning a wide range of media, Gallery 400 exhibitions create compelling
experiences of the best in local and international contemporary art.
Running alongside the exhibition program, the Gallery’s Voices
Lecture Series is a premier forum in Chicago for the discussion of current
topics in the fields of contemporary art and design. Recent speakers
include artists Emily Jacir, Lucy McKenzie, and William Pope.L, critics
John Paul Ricco and Michael Newman and curators Connie Butler and Helen
Molesworth.
The annual fall program At the Edge: Innovative Art in Chicago commissions
and presents six one-person or artist-curated projects that are at the
vanguard art in Chicago. At the Edge unveils newly created works that
take a risk, that are difficult to show in commercial spaces, that extend
a working artists practice, and/or that push the boundaries of art experimentation.
