STRAY SHOW PERFORMANCE
Stan Shellabarger and husband Dutes Miller will be performing at the Stray Show
in the Western Exhibitions booth on Saturday, May 8 at 2pm by adding on to their
crocheted pink "tube." As this tube of pink yarn grows, it forces the
two further apart, yet the continual, tandem activity keeps the lovers both literally
and metaphorically attached.
WESTERN EXHIBITIONS works with 14 emerging contemporary
artists and one collective. A portable gallery inhabiting empty loft spaces (Dan
Attoe in Chicago’s
Bridgeport neighborhood in the summer of 2003), collaborating with existing galleries
(Mark Wagner and Christian Uhl at Seven Three Split in Chicago), and sponsoring
performances and events (Stan Shellabarger’s equinox walks in Humboldt
Park, Chicago or Jibangus’ night of “Fun and Horror” at a synagogue
in Madison, Wisconsin), WESTERN EXHIBITIONS also shows work out of director Scott
Speh’s home headquarters. Recent HQ shows have included Nicholas Frank’s “A
Few Snapshots from History” and Pedro Velez’ “New Drawings.”
Western Exhibitions will feature Dan Attoe, Nicholas Frank, Adriane Herman, John
Neff, Stan Shellaberger and Pedro Velez in their booth at the Stray Show.
